On 7–9 April 2016, Kraków brought together nearly 90 lawyers from Poland, the United States and other European countries. The event was hosted by the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) — one of the largest and most influential bar associations in the world — with the support of the Polish Bar Council.
Atty. Szymon Gostyński served as Program Chair of the conference, taking responsibility for both its substantive programme and its organisation. His involvement was instrumental to the success of the entire event.
Conference topics
The programme comprised five discussion panels on current issues in international and cross-border law:
- International arbitration — recent procedural trends
- Cross-border contract formation — practical challenges and pitfalls
- FATCA regulations — international tax compliance
- Cross-border personal data transfers — standards and restrictions
- Property restitution in Central and Eastern Europe — legal framework and prospects
The conference closed with remarks by David P. Miranda, then-President of the NYSBA, who praised both the quality of the discussions and Kraków as a venue.
Kraków on the international legal map
The event confirmed that the Polish legal community — and the Kraków bar in particular — is an active and equal participant in the global legal dialogue. Nearly half of the attendees came from abroad, giving the conference a genuinely international character.
The next NYSBA European conference was scheduled for Paris (19–21 October 2016).
Atty. Gostyński’s role as organiser and panelist reflects the firm’s ongoing commitment: active participation in the international exchange of legal knowledge, to the direct benefit of our clients operating across borders.
